???Help! Where may I get a plastic comb for my 270? I have just had one crack for no good reason other than it is wood. I do take care of my chromatics play at least once a week keep them in the boxes etc. I may have to rethink what I buy in the future. Thanks folks. Geoff

In case nobody answered this directly to you....

you can probably fix it yourself...but Bill Romel sells acrylic combs ..plastic, whatever....
shoot him an email

to fix the wooden comb might be easy....take it apart and see where the crack is...if it's not the crack to end all cracks, some white glue will probably take care of it....then, if necessary, sand the face of the comb, where it touches the mouthpiece assembly, or the side that hits the plates....put it all together and play it...

there's copious amounts of good info online on this subject....kind of like the first time you replace the brakes on your old Volvo, takes guts the first time...after that, you wonder what took you so long..

The inside of the comb is more or less raw (no finish) and drying and cracking always seems to start there, so here's one of those areas whee "comb sealing" might go a long way toward preventing the problem. There are a number of methods I've heard discussed to seal combs, although I've never actually tried any of them. I would think any non-toxic substance that would keep the comb from loosing moisture would do. (along with possibly making a for more air tight horn:o)

The above problem also brings another aspect into focus, that I've always wondered about. Some folks like the wood combs because they say that wood "breathes"  If the is the case,we're looking at a catch 22 here. If sealing the comb ( as some wood comb freaks do) causes it not to breathe, what's the benefit of a wood comb at all?  I personally wish they'd just do away with wood combs altogether. Ha ha! (of course that's just MPO)
