Age, I wonder if it is worth mentioning here that you can put a picture of any (reasonable) size on a forum by uploading to
http://photobucket.com/
and then paste a link to it in the forum.
When you view your uploaded photo, you are given several different links. Click the one labelled IMG and it is immediately copied, ready for pasting elsewhere - like the following


It costs nothing to open an account with photobucket. There are probably other similar sites.

Sure, that oughtta be fine! Just keep in mind a few points:
Focus focus focus (big doesn't make up for fuzzy)
Trim/crop photos (just because)
If you're going to show 80% of the object; show it all. (its like cutting heads off)

You could think of it as a musical progression - a series of notes flowing through changing chords. 

Anyway, it's a cost-free way (money and server memory) of displaying images.

Any photos I take with my camera are always classed as too 'big' to load upon SlideMeisters.
I use 'Itensify', to change photo's from jpg to many other formats, but I do not know how you make a photo 'smaller'/ less than 1000KB?
Any suggestions most gratefully received.

Henry, there are many photo processing apps that will do it. Of course, Adobe Photoshop is far too expensive but the free alternative is GIMP

However it is a complex system and perhaps not suitable unless you want its clever re-touching functions.

A simple way is to use Microsoft Paint (if you are running Windows)
Open Paint, open your jpg photo, click 'Resize' on the tool bar and guess a percentage.
Save it as a different file in case it is not as you want, and repeat until you get it right.

In my opinion, jpg is the best format for this purpose. You can reduce the file size without reducing the image size by saving at lower quality but I don't think Paint gives you this choice, however reducing the size should be ok for display on forums.

But, why not upload to photobucket as I described at the start of this thread? Any size you wish, it occupies no space on the forum.

I have downloaded 'Photobucket' and have uploaded a few photos OK.
How do I get those photos to a mail on SlideMeisters?
What do people use 'Photobucket for?

I suspected you had a Mac. I imagine you can get apps for Mac similar to Microsoft Paint but presumably you would have to pay for them.

Anyway, to use photobucket, open it in a browser window while having your forum 'post topic' page open in another window.

Then in photobucket, depending on which view of your photos you have on screen, click the photo you want and you should get a solitary view of it. On the right of the screen there is a section entitled 'Shared links'. The bottom one of these is labelled IMG.
Just click this and you have an immediate copy of the link address on your clipboard (i.e. without the formal 'Control-C')
Move to your forum page and paste (Control+V)  into your topic window.
If you then look at the preview the photo will be displayed if all is correct.

Incidentally, I keep a direct link to my own Photobucket page rather than logging in every time. I am vague about what else happens in Photobucket since I only use it for this one purpose, but I think you can have prints of your photos in various gift or greeting card forms.

I'd so love to post my cats' various photos but still haven't figured it out. Once I get my NEW COMPUTER hooked up (have to wait a wee bit longer) , I'm sure I'll be able to do a lot more--and figure out how to down(up?)load other things to this seriously impaired machine. lolol
