(1/1)

pmelissakis:
I just got a newsletter from Seydel with soundtracks
and spectrum analysis of notes using brass vs stainless steel
reeds.

asee:
i have long wondered about this... many customisers have put a lot of work on using different materials for the body, and the consensus is that it does nothing to the tone. The cover is said to have something with the volume, and we do have different covers from different customisers. However the reed, which is arguably the most important part of the harmonica that is directly related to sound production, there is little work to improve/change/customise it.

Unlike us, reed instrument players usually make their own reeds and have a lot of fuzz about material and craftsmenship. string players care about their string's tension, material etc. We seem just to accept whatever we are given, as far as reeds are concerned.

I am glad that they are experimenting with stainless steel reeds. I hope others are also experimenting with other materials as well. I sure hope that there are better reeds for the chromatic soon
