Mac. My iMac is over 10 years old and still going strong. Ran 10.1.5 up until last year when I updated my op system to 10.3.9. In fact my iMac is so old that the internal battery that keeps the date and time set has gone bad, need to install a new battery someday,LOL.
My next computer will probably be a Mac Mini, I love how small they are and that you can plug in whatever flat screen you want.

Been addicted to Mac since 1998. My first computer was a Webtv. remember those? not really a computer but it got me on the net.

The only thing I hate about either operating systems (mac/pc) is they decide when your computer and everything you bought for it becomes obsolete. not you.

I bought a $3,500 film and negative scanner for my first Mac as well as a $500 TEAC cd burner, regular paper scanner, printer and other devices. I became allergic to darkroom chemicals so the Minolta scanner was my salvation. 2 years later SCSI's are replaced with USB. Minolta goes out of business. A few more years the G3 became a dinosaur along with all the SCSI devices
attached to it. At that point I gave up photography altogether. I easily had $15,000 tied up in gear and software. All useless 7 years later.

I'm now working with a G5 I bought in 2005. I have a laser and inkjet printer connected to it. The G5 is now a dinosaur. I bought it 6 months before Apple switched to inTel processors. Apple stopped making upgrades for my model which has an IBM processor. <sigh>

Next computer will probably be his and hers laptops. I'm tired of being tied to towers.

I picked up a iMac 1-700 (I think) the one that looks like ArtooDeetoo w/OS-10 Works fine but no password and no OSX OS disk to reinstall. It's cute, but on a technological scale, boarderline worthless, and yet I don't wanna throw it away. Dumb, eh?

One wall of my son's garage is filled with shelves covered with old Macs - he doesn't have one of every model ever made, but probably close to it. Apple computers are collectible (but not valuable) because of their cutting edge industrial design and because each model is unique.

Oh yeah. PC are a lot cheaper as is the software (and more available) but they crash more, but then when they do, you can actually fix them, when a Mac crashes, you're blued and tattooed, but then PCs get viruses, but then, that's just cuz they don't write many for Macs (yet) yadayadayadayada My biggest problem with Macs is that Steve Jobz don't know how to make the windows re-size as good as Bill Gaytes duz ( and neither does anyone else that works at MAC)

I have both. My mac doesn't do anything I want it to! but that's just cuz I don't know how to speak Mac'ese since being a PC guy since the flood. However, I love GarageBang! That's why I bought the thing in the first place.

Wanna Killer Mac? Buy a fire breathin' PC quad core or whatever the biggest, baddest is this week (for half the price of a MAC with the same processing power) install Parallels, Mac OS and Windows 7 and you have a screamer that runs everything for less than a Mac that just runs Mac, and get the best of both worlds.

If I had the dough, that's what I would do.

I built a "fire breather" last year, except I run it with Linux. I use Ubuntu and love it, all the software in the libraries is free. I was given a copy of Win 7 that I have installed on an external (esata) in case I want to boot from it. I did use it once to restore a friends ipod but Ubuntu if more user friendly. Can't say I have much experience with Mac. I might try it in virtual box someday.

I work with PC's Though, having sed that there is an advantage to macs that I feel PC's somewhat lack. The graphical and sound proccessing power on a mac is simplfied and so ends up much cleaner and the finished product is at a studio quality, where as with a pc, you'll need to go out and get a mic and some software and learn how to use it to achieve this level of finish. MAC osX came with software already and was easy to use.

Other than that I much prefer a 64 bit windows 7 PC and I can get this level of finish with a few tweaks.

I would personally have to dissagree with the statement that linux is more user friendly. sure it loads faster, but there is no way a user can pick it up and use it out the box, they'll find them selves googling how to install software. not like windows, or mac for that matter, give someone a mac or a pc they will pretty much be able to use it out the box.

It's funny about Mac envy. I attend a meeting of six good friends once a month to talk about world affairs, investments, and economics. Three of them are retired IBM-ers. One IBM guy - a good friend - hates anything Apple with a passion. I can't quite figure it. He seems fascinated with Apple products but at the same time feel impelled to run them down every chance he gets.
"Did you hear that Androids outsold iPhones last month?" Or. when somebody a little tech-challenged asked the group which smart phone he should buy. Mind now, my Mac-hating friend was sitting next to me and I had my iPhone 4 lying on the table in front of him. He said, "Well, there's one phone I would advise you to never buy! An iPhone!"
Incidentally, he's always watching whenever I use it to look up a stock price or some other info. (It seems to dig out the info much faster than the other PC-based phones around the table. I'm sure he hates that!)
I guess it's like politics. Some things you just can never figure. As the 2,000 year-old man said (remember him?) "Children - let them be!"

History .. Started out with a used trs-80 / C-64 / 8086 / 8088. Later .. Tandy 286 with dos & Win 3.1, IBM Clone 386 with Dos & Win 3.11 / Win95, IBM Clone 486 DX-33 with Dos & Win95, Clone 486-DX4-100 with Dos, Linux and Win 95. Some old Pentiums.

My desktop is a Windows XP machine. Laptop is Win-7. (My favorite machine)

(I also have a Windows 7 Desktop, but I almost never use it. Every once in awhile I turn it on so it can get updates.)

Seems like this thread keeps limping along with a post every year or so and on that note....I'm in.

I use my Macbook Air whenever I can, been using Macintosh computers since 1986.

I also have a very nice Thinkpad running Linux. That's a nice OS

Mac. But use both. Windows 7 doesn't bother me. I just turn off all the crap that gets in the way.

Been a Mac user since the Apple IIC and have never really looked back. For a period of time had a Pentium 3 though. Then to a QuickSilver Dual 800Mhz. Then a G4 PowerBook 800Mhz. Then a Dual 2.3Ghz G5. Then a Mac Book Pro 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo. Now I have a Mac Book Pro Core i7 2.66Ghz. I'm hoping to downsize to a Mac Book Air in the future.

I decided on the PC about a hundred years ago after giving
serious consideration to the apple(MAC). The apple(MAC)
had a nine inch BW screen and cost a lot more than the PC.

Right or wrong I went with the inferior PC.

I bought a Mac nine months ago after many years with a PC. I am still struggling and falling back on my PC laptop for many things. However, I think the Mac is beautifully designed and made and is great for Music and Photos. I have just found out that the Mac can run both with a partition of the hard drive, so I am going to try this as it would seem to be offering the best of both worlds. Also the new Windows 8 seems to have adopted many features of Apple. I will let you know how I get on.

I have a pretty large hard drive on my Mac. I partitioned it in two and loaded Win-doze 7 in one half. Never use it! It's so clumsy. It takes 2 or 3 maneuvers to do things that on a Mac takes only a click.

Mac. Much simpler to use, viruses are rare, and stable as can be. I use PC's at work, so I do have a relative knowledge of both.
