48 Chord harmonica players: Sound off!

<< < (22/22)

John Broecker:
Hello, "Chuggers".

This is part 3 of Wally Peterman's list of
available split chords on the Hohner 48
chord #267 Chromatica harmonica.

Asian brands Huang #122 Compact 48
Chord and Suzuki #SCH-48 and more
recent Suzuki models, have a few inverted
chords, and the SCH-48 has diminished
chords instead of Hohner's diminished 7th
chords.

That might limit the available split chords
on the Asian models.

HOHNER #267 CHROMATICA 48 CHORD HARP
LOWER DECK, INHALE SPLIT CHORDS
Continued from part 2:

USING ENHARMONIC SPELLINGS:
Each spelled letter has another spelling, depending
on the use of flat (b) scales or sharp (#) scales.
Bb is spelled A# for # scales; F# is Gb in flat scales;
and other spellings may use enharmonics.

Signs: (+ ) = augmented chords;
          ( o ) = diminished chords

Bb D Gb Bb (Bb+) factory-labeled chord

Bb Db E G    (Eo7) factory-labeled chord

F# A C Eb     (F#o7) factory-labeled chord

7TH, SPLIT CHORDS, BOTTOM DECK INHALE:

PETERMAN:

BeauKim:
This is great, John. Thanks for sharing this. Was there a page 1 of notes? Hopefully there's some more info you're able to share.

Just one chord correction here, that should be Ab dim and Eb Aug. So it's:
||  Ab Dim ||  Eb Aug  ||
||- B D || G B - ||

--- Quote from: John Broecker on April 26, 2023, 09:23:29 AM ---
||Ab Aug.||Eb Aug.  ||
||- - B D ||Eb G B - || Tongue Block Result: B D G B (G major inversion)

Continued: MORE SPLIT CHORDS on page 3, tomorrow. See you here.

John Broecker:
Hello, Harmonica Chuggers.

This is part 4 of Wally's split chords listings. The
first part was in the "98-Chords Song" article, here
in the General Chromatic Discussion section.

BEAU KIM:

Thanks for the correction. My mistake has been
changed. Other corrections have been made to
part 3 of this article.

Split chords are chords that require tongue blocking.
They aren't listed on the chord harp covers.

Also, Wally has listed some splits that aren't available
on the Hohner 48 chord harp. He listed them, & wrote
"Nothing" after them. I left those out of this article.

There may be more chords that Wally didn't list. But, you
might search and find them on the Hohner 48 chord harp.

Let us know if you have an Asian-made 48 chord harp (Suzuki, Huang,
Golden Cup, etc. I have a note chart for the Asian 48 chord harps.

More tomorrow, with a summary. Right here.

Best Regards, Keep Chuggin'

John Broecker:
Hello, 48'ers.

BROECKER:
This is part 5 of Wally Peterman's
48-chord harmonica, Hohner split chords list.
Part one was from a discussion of the "98 Chords, Song",
here in the General Chromatic Discussion. Parts 2-5 are
here, under "48-chord harmonica players: Sound Off".

This is the final page of Wally's split chords index.
We're very grateful for Wally's list, and for his great
chord harp playing. Thanks, Wally.

Here are three more split chords on the Hohner #267
Chromatica, 48-Chord harmonica.

But, first, let's repeat the signs used:

Bold letters are blocked by the tongue: C E G C; E G C E; G C E G.
Regular spellings (not bold) are played.
(||) represents a border between two factory-installed chords.
(+) represents an augmented (aug.) chord = A+ is A augmented.
(o) represents a diminished (dim.) chord. Bbo is Bb diminished.
(-) is a chord tone not used, outside of the lip placement.  (- - )E G = play E G, don't play the - notes.
(7) is a seventh (7th) chord. Bo7 is a B diminished 7th chord.
A substitute chord is used when a chord isn't available on the 48-Chord harp: (a C6 chord is replaced by an A minor chord).
Enharmonic Spellings: an E# is the same tone as an F; a Bb is the same tone as a A#, etc.

PETERMAN:
BOTTOM CHORD HARP, INHALE CHORDS:

||A+            ||Eo7          ||
||A C#E# A ||E G Bb Db || U-block Result: (A C# E G ); A dominant 7th chord.

||A+             ||Eo7        ||
||-  C# E# A ||E G Bb - || Result: (Db F G Bb ); G dominant 7th (C# = Db; E# = F) or Bb minor 6th.

||A+             ||Eo7           ||
|| -  -  - E# A ||E G Bb Db || Result: (F A Bb Db); Bb minor with raised 7th; or Bb minor.
