Diminished tuning

Haha I am not trying to convince you of anything. I understand very well. I felt like a complete dork when I started. I could barely burp up a major scale. Actually I couldn't without hitting some wrong notes. One of my biggest arguments against Dimi is that I think it takes a lot of dedication. You must be ready to step back to the basics and play like a novice again. That's a priority not everybody is comfortable with and for good reasons! It's intuitive, but that does not mean it is easy! For a complete beginner it would probably be easier than solo.

With my ADHD, I don't multitask well at most things, but rather, tend to "hyper-focus," if it interests me. If I'm not really crazy about something, I will find an excuse to put off doing it, maybe even in perpetuity. Yeah, I'm bad like that. So, ya see, I'm dealing with some definite personality flaws here.

I put in an order for a Seydel Symphony 48 in G diminished today. Super excited to expand my range of diminished harmonicas. I was uncertain about getting one in A or G but decided G is best because that is what I am familiar with. I don't want to get more keys until I am more experienced with the tuning and layout.

That's awesome!  Great to see they have added the Symphony 48 to the configurator.

I got used to playing the diminished harmonica (diatonic) and transposing depending on which key Dimi I picked up.  I found that this translates to Dimi chromatic, too, and I suddenly find it much easier to play Dimi chromatics of different keys.  Sort of like the "Smokey Joe" approach of transposing on solo chromatic, I think.

I dunno. At my stage of the game, I think I'd do better switching to a kalimba than than I would switching to anything but standard tuning

Yeah, that makes sense, AJ. As it's been said before, Dimi is not something you pick up for a quick advantage, like country diatonic or paddy richter. It's more in the start-from-scratch territory.

On the other hand, one can be learning it and still be able to play Solo like they always have. So at some point, you can use whichever one works best for the situation. (This is especially true with diabolics, as a dimi 10-hole can really add to what can already be done on richter).

You're probably right but at my age, and with all the other stuff I'm trying to "shoehorn" into my bucket list, and that I'm finally getting a handle on how to play this thing as it is, I must admit to having a "diminished" interest in alternate tunings in general.  

That being said and to be fair, I still think if I were a newbie, (insteadda someone who's been playing these things since the flood ) I'd jump all over either Dimi or auggi or something other than standard tuning for any number of reasons.
