I still have the "64th Chromonica" that I bought with my shoeshine money when I was 10 or 11, and it still plays pretty well, but I also have a 280 that I bought in 1978. Below is almost the first number I ever played on it (also the first time I ever played that particular number, period. :P). As raggedy as this old recording is, it showcases Paul Zarts playing my chord,  and Tony Heinz, playing my bass. It was the only time I ever played as part of a traditional harumka trio, and I always wished I could play my "other" instruments half as well as those two guys did. :’(

Aaaanyway, THAT particular axe, (the 280) I felt was waaaay superior to the old "Chromonica" I've had since the flood, and I still plan to restore the old girl. Right now, it's all in bits, in a box, with a new comb, screws and nuts, and new cover-plates. Whoopee!   Gunna be great if I ever put her back together. :)

Hello, Ed.

I went back to your original post
on the headline subject.

You wrote that the gurgling sound
happened when playing loudly.

I play firmly, with a solid tone
on each reed, but never loudly.

That may be why I didn't hear
gurgling on any of my 64 chroms.

My apologies to you.

Best Regards, Stay Healthy

John,
Some people have gremlins, gooches or gnomes in their F or F# chambers. You simply got lucky.
