I keep finding perfectly good clothing in dumpsters where I live and occasionally by streets. Most is in good condition. I wash it and give it to organizations that help the homeless.  I keep a few good things for myself.
-I grew up in country in middle of New York State. Many of my relatives never heated second floors of their old houses in the winter.
When I look at the thermostat in my electrically cooled and heated apartment in Houston, where old apartments have inefficient HVAC and poor insulation, and all the winter clothing and quilts I have, I turn the heat off. I haven't turned on the heat in this apartment in at least fifteen years.   I've had my electricity usage down to 58 kwhr in a month (last month).
-With the money I save, I think it's time to buy a couple spare harmonica gaskets from that store in Calif. Is it Rockin Ron's?

One of my roommates at VMI many years ago was a guy from the middle of New York state ... specifically, he was raised in Central Bridge in Schoharie County.  Anywhere near your home?

Mention of cast-off retreads reminds me of the name associated with them: road 'gators (as in, alligators).They look like them, don't they? My younger daughter even made a plaque with a small one, complete with googly eyes.

WOW Larry, yes that DOES make a difference. Like right now down here there are trucks and trailers all over the place. A lot of them have ditch witch, hysters, crawlers, log chippers, cherry pickers, and loads of scrap.
They leave them overnight, and return the next morning to continue working. SO..they wouldn't be abondoned, lost, or disposed of. I take back what I said about Charlottsville. . (btw, is that N. Carolina?).

--Thanks for checking on the gaskets for me.  I just looked at the website. They have gaskets :'(, but nothing for a Hohner Super 64.

To make a gasket like a Dee's Gasket, you first have to get lucky and find the right material. The Teflon that Dee used for gaskets is soft. Different from the Teflon baking sheets that we used to use for valves.  Can anybody suggest a material that will work?  Maybe 0.5 mm thick, compressible AND after you compress it and release the pressure, it springs back to its former thickness.

Then you have to trace the right shape onto it. Then you have to cut the shape and the holes. Precision has to be smaller than one or 0.5 mm.
I appreciate the improvement that Dee's Gaskets make.

I also appreciate the paint on my slides. I painted the slide of my Performance 64X, and still it took too much air. I added two more coats of paint at the low end and that was marvelous. I might add one more puff of paint at the low end. I removed paint from the high end of my slide, because the nots up there sounded too squally.

Not Lockjaw, but can answer your question!  Charlotte is in NC.  (The Queen City).
Charlottesville is in Virginia.  (Home of Mr. Jefferson's University (UVA) and his home Monticello.)

Smo, it’s near our past home in Virginia. We loved the whole area but upon retiring we moved to our retirement home in beautiful West Virginia.  Love it here too.

Okay, just coming home from that benefit I just played for (went great BTW - raised $1758) and I stopped at at an intersection and saw my next find: a 16" Homelite Ranger chainsaw. Cute!! Now I have something to go with that 5 gal. gas can that started this thread.!
