I?m likely much too AR!! I put EVERYTHING back together just as it came apart. Cover plates, even put screws back in the same holes. I?m hopeless!!

Hi Scx64 Fans
Just a few thoughts about a little modification of Scx64.
I play in a Gypsy / Jazz band and therefore always use a microphone.
For the most part, the Audix Fireball --- sometimes the Suzuki M100 - sounds very round and soft because it only goes up to 5000hz.
I have found that scx sounds much better with Sirius Covers --- both amplified and acoustic.
In short, the sound becomes more delicious and rounded, however, without losing edge in tone.
With Powerplugs it is very different from scx to scx.
One player nicely rounded with plugs in the last 3 holes --- another player nicely raw without plugs ---- so this is taste and pleasure.
Personally, I thought that Powercombs attenuates the sound too much and that the sound becomes undynamic without an edge ---- but that's just my opinion ---- Do you have other experiences ??

My 12 hole SCX is mostly a Sirius.
Orchestra tuned Bebop, Sirius cover plates and comb, the plates are SCX in G (easier to retune to Orchestra).
The slide and mouth piece are also from the Sirius.
So, it sounds like a Sirius.

Cuz I have an SCX in G that I pretty much quit playing since breaking outta "tonickey" jail a few years ago, and it just sets in the box looking gorgeous

Yes - It's fun to try different combinations and see or rather hear what's happening with the sound.
I have for a couple of years now used scx48 reedplates on a G48 frame --- it just sounds super good. The weights give just the last touch to the sound. Also here I have Powerplugs in the last 3 holes --- it gives a nice round sound in upper octave.
The original G48 with Powerplugs in the top octave also sounds super super cool --- maybe the best sound at all ---- but also here taste and pleasure.
SCX Reedplates are just for me so flexible and responsive ---- so G48 for battle to the line even though it's a significantly more expensive Harmonica.

What exactly is the reason why Suzuki does not make a Scx 48 TENOR?
I have almost given up playing on my Scx 56 despite it being very handy. But I always drive mad that the bottom note is G and not C.
I've only played C instruments over the years ---- It would be super cool if Suzuki launched a Scx12 Tenor --- could you push them a little --- hihi!

I have tried a CX12 Tenor --- but gave up as it had massive problems all around ---- also has a CXGold - slide noises - windsawers problems etc --- uha uha!
Hope not that I step on anyone's toes ---- I'm definitely happy with the sound on Hohner --- it's just the mechanics that's lousy!

I have an older SCX64 with a trapezoid mouthpiece. I bought it used. Though it plays fine, it takes an air compressor to get a sound. It is nowhere near as easy to play as my newer SCX48's with round mouthpieces. I have a Hohner Super64 which is about 15 years old, and is perfect.

I tried adjusting the set screws on the mouthpiece, but no cigar. It is a shame to have it just sitting there. all pretty and all. All notes play in tune, but is as airtight as a seive.

They should, don’t know why—there is a bass Sirius that starts on C2 . . .

I'm with you about 'orchestra' range, often find I need a B or an A below middle C, but I don't need the high end of a 14, so my Seydels (12 hole), (& Chrometta10), work well for me - I do like a tenor as well, just because I like to play tunes an octave down sometimes.

I understand that the SCX is a good choice, but I can see a great diversity in prices for the 12 holes (from 148 to 186 euros). I wonder whether there are several SCX 48.

As I mention in your intro, you might like to consider a SCX-56 as it has a few lower than middle C notes that often come in handy.

As long as it's version 2, it should be the same SCX48. Prices vary according to retailer's stock and special promotions. I recently bought a SCX48 from Muziker on offer for £137 inc. delivery. It's now £162 + delivery. However, the SCX56 is being promoted at £127 + delivery which is a great price. I like both but the 56 gives you a wider range of notes to play and is not too heavy to hold.

DJ there is only the one model of the SCX48. It is offered in different keys as well as the standard key of C.
Many years ago the mouthpiece was upgraded. So you might see a V2 on the box.

I agree. My 56 has wood covers which (to Me) almost make the perfect chromatic.

Got myself a SCX-48 as my first harmonica. Love it, although I had some sticky valve problems (well the harp, not me). Could be because I was near the sea so alot of humidity (?) - could just also be my beginner's technique.
I regret not getting the SCX-56 because I miss the lower notes on quite a few jazz standards.

Valve problems are but a small "personality quirk" of the best instrument on the planet. We all deal with it. Chromatics are known for:
#1. Gorgeous sound
#2. Sticky valves
#3. Only played by the best looking people in the world.

Basically, make sure your chrom is at about body temperature, then you will have few sticking valves.

The GM48 is the best harp to me. The only thing that it wins over the scx is the comb that is straighter and therefor does not bring so much slide blocage. The sirius is is good but too narrow to my ears ans the silver comb is horribly non sliding vs the scx. I just hate it. If only the slide mechanism of suzuki was better. ..
