Hopefully everyone will get familiar with the correct procedures after the first one. Up front, prolly the most important (and simple) thing us to MUTE yourself when you're not actually talking to the group.

Im sure, some of you folks are already veteran "Zoomies," while a lot of us are, let's say, not

so this might be a "feet wetting" experience for some of us, but don't be afraid, don't be nervous, don't be shy.

I’ve done a lot of Zoom meetings. Coupla things:

They CAN be done on phones, but it’s not as “robust” as on a computer or tablet. If you have either of the latter, I’d suggest using them.

Once you’re “on the meeting” it’s pretty simple. It’s the “getting on” that can be a bit tricky the first time. I suggest that maybe the first 10 minutes of our first one be dedicated to making sure everyone who wants to participate gets on. Maybe even a phone number or two for folks to call in for instructions and help if there are issues.

Once the app is on your device, you can open it and click on “join” even though there’s no real meeting. This will allow you to play around with the settings and controls to get familiar. You can also tweak to make sure your audio and video (camera and mic) are working ok.

Looking forward to seeing a lot of friends on Thursday!

Somebody said they'd like to have video of the meeting.
I optioned have it so anyone can make a video of the meeting.
We'll see how that works out but may change it in the future.

In my post above, I said you can play around with settings by opening Zoom and pressing "join". WRONG! My bad! To do the playing around by yourself to learn settings and tweak things prior to the "real" session on Thursday, you should open the app and click on "New Meeting". That will start a meeting with you as the only participant. From there, just look at settings and get used to the options you have. You can test your mic for best sound, and you can see what the video will look like. I think it will be helpful prior to signing on to Danny's session on Thursday afternoon.

When Thursday afternoon rolls around, that's when you'll click on "Join" and enter the info from Danny to join the session.

A good idea (if you're gunna play) is to make a test video with Photo Booth on a Mac and whatever the PC equilavent is, and if it sounds good to you, it is good. Don't be bashful. Most of us suck anyway Ha Ha! but there should also be some pros on line as well, and THAT'S gunna be a treat!

After you watch it you'll understand why ...... Next week I'm going to set my view to "Speaker" and leave it there so I get full screen video of players and talkers. That way you can tell people who's next remind everyone that the have to mute when they are not playing.

I did some playing with Zoom yesterday. I have found that in Zoom, you can "share" audio that's on your device (i.e.; PC, tablet, etc.) I tried this, and I was able to play backing tracks that are on my PC easily. To do this in Zoom, you click on the "share screen" button at the bottom. When you do that, you'll see a tab at the top labeled "advance". When you click on "Advance", you'll see a choice labeled "computer audio". Click on that, then click on "share" at the bottom. That will allow you to play backing tracks from your device.

Here's my issue: When I do the above AND enable the "noise suppression OFF feature that allows listeners to hear the harmonica, I get a very distorted sound of the harmonica. It seems that it's an "either/or" situation. When I use a speaker to play backing tracks, and play into my mic using the correct noise suppression setting in Zoom, it's ok, but not great. When I try to play the track from my computer by sharing audio, the harmonica is distorted.

I've joined an online Zoom Community and have posted this issue. I feel like there must be a way to do this in a more professional way, but I've not found it yet. When I figure it out, I'll post the result on SlideMeister so we all have the info. Meanwhile, if some of you have already invented this wheel, please let me know!

I use 2 computers for Zoom meetings, One is watching the Zoom meeting and the other one is my Band in a Box backing tracks.
So I can't use the share audio option.

Janet and I will be attending a friends funeral tomorrow at 4pm. It’s a full funeral mass, and Janet is in charge of the music. If anyone is still hanging around in Zoom when I get home I’ll see you then. If not… have fun and I’ll join next time.

UPDATE:
The funeral is changed to 1pm EST, so I’ll be home in time to join in the
Zoom fun. See you then.

I think I have my system simplified and ready for the next ZOOMer. Made up four new cables and some other stuff. Now my studio desk doesn't look like a bird's nest anymore. (I also learned a lot in the process about how this silly Soundcraft-8FX thing works works

) Still don't have it completely nailed, but I think I got it on the run. We'll see next Thursday, eh?

Now I just gotta decide on the right mic.
