I just wondered, how many of the group are planning to attend Buckeye ?

Danny...I think you are jumping the gun a bit by assuming people aren't planning to attend Buckeye.  I don't post every day ...and it looks as though you just put this up here on the 9th?  I just found it now...and only by accident.  My computer has a disconcerting habit of knocking me out of rooms I'm in...so I've voted.  Now you're up to 12.

I go to Buckeye.  Traipse my butt all the way from NY.  This will be my 3rd in a row.  And I guarantee a lot more than 12 folk from here will be there.  I know some players who don't post on any of the lists, but read them ... there are still some people who might read the board but don't post either, or fill out polls.  Just how things work.  I'm pretty sure Wally and Val Peterman will be in attendance, just to name two.  I know lots of people from Harp-L who will be there....many of whom are also chromatic players.  But you do have to leave a poll up for a bit, to get input.  As well, even if people want and intend to go, this still might be a wee bit early to finalize their plans.

 I'm committing myself this far ahead, but still haven't made my plane reservations and/or booked the Convention because there are too many personal issues to take care of first...and for the last two years couldn't do it until practically 3 weeks before, because of my many pets and trying to figure out the logistics.  But I'm sure it'll be a good turnout, you'll see. 

As far as Virginia is concerned... never been, don't know much about it at all....it's much too far away distance wise for me to ask my spouse to drive me there when it's not remotely an interest of his...and since I always go to SPAH and hope to maybe finally get to the GSHC this year as well, I don't think it's fair to expect everyone to attend every harmonica happening, since financially I for one will really be stretched extremely thin attending the others.

On the 9th, I wrote a long message dineating each and every detail of why I do or don't go to the festivals. Fortunately, I went over the 4660 byte limit, and it died in my computer. That's good because no one want's to hear a cry baby like me. But here's some distances to ponder:
Denver = 2186 ground miles (1668 by air) Must go by air.
Detroit = 1273 ground miles (drove it from Pgh, won't do it from here)
Chicago= 1274 ground miles (same)
Dallas  =  1272 ground miles (drove it once, won't happen again)
Kansas City = 1271 ground miles (didn't go)
Paramus = 1270 ground miles (WON't drive that far on the east coast)
St. Louis = 1112 ground miles (never drove it, always flew)
Columbus = 1111 ground miles (ALWAYS drive)
Williamsburg = 971 ground miles (drove it once)
Memphis = 848 ground miles (drove it but from Pgh, which was only 565)
Birmingham = 647 ground miles (can be done in one day)
If I take the wife, it would normally be cheaper to drive, but when you factor in a motel each way and two days of driving, a fest has to be at least 4 days if it is far away. There's MUCH MUCH more, but I'll let it go.

I'm used to getting a 'packet' in the mail. I haven't received anything yet. I kinda like to know who is going to be there. Although I go for the camaderie, it sure is nice if the players are people I haven't heard unpteen times. I mean, I like some of them to pieces, but I don't listen to people who I have heard over 6 times. My feelings are that there are enough players out there, so give some of them a chance.
 As a general rule, if certain people are going to be on the show, I would tend to avoid the festival. I wasn't there last year but we had made the previous several in a row. That trip is used for a side trip to Pgh so Cass can visit her senile mother in the home. She is over 90, and so I don't know how long that will last. I have only been back there 5 times in the last 10 years.

Cassie has been to 6 Buckeyes with me but only 2 spahs, and 1 Williamsburg. I usually travel alone. I always get her a full pass, but she seldom hangs around, I don't see her that much and it's like a waste of money, but the way I see it, the clubs can use the money somewhere anyway. Besides, she DOES buy lots of raffle tickets.

This year at Buckeye there will be a 3-½ hour-long Band-in-a-Box seminar.
It will be broken down into three 1 hour and 10 minute segments.

The first session will be Thursday April 19th, from 11:20 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.

Participants will have a 1-½ hour break to either have lunch or attend the Jimmi Lee seminar “Playing in the Rack & Special Tunings” from 12:45 P.M. – 1:55 P.M.

At 2:00 P.M. Elmer Matilla will present the 2nd part of the Band-in-a-Box seminar. You’ll get to see the various features of the program demonstrated.  When you go home you’ll find that referring to the information in Elmer’s handouts will make learning the program much easier.

The final session will be bright and early Friday morning from 9 A.M.- 10:10 A.M. 

I’m making folders to pass out containing the outline of my part of the seminar in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. This will be the same material that will be projected on the big screen during the seminar.
You will also receive a CD with over 500 Band-in-a-Box songs, several MIDI files that you’ll learn how to convert to Band-in-a-Box songs and a copy of the PowerPoint that you can play on your computer at home.
PG Music, the creators of Band-in-a-Box is providing Band-in-a-Box Price Lists & Order Forms and a CD catalog featuring all of their products.
The folders will be available to the first 55 people who sign up.

There have been a lot of improvements to Band-in-a-Box over the years. If you have the program, you're probably going to want to upgrade to Band-in-a-Box 2007.

PG Music is donating a copy of Band-in-a-Box PowerPak to be raffled off at the Saturday Night Dinner Show raffle. This package includes the Band-in-a-Box 2007 program with all the bells and whistles and PowerTracks Pro Audio 8.

Still no word on whether they are going to give a discount to seminar attendees but I got a the Band-in-a-Box package from PG Music today. There are sell sheets for 3 of their products and the software to be raffled off at Buckeye. I downloaded Band in a Box 2007 the day it was introduced, well actually over the next couple of days. It's a big program, over 3 gigabytes. There are over 50 new features for 2007, my favorite is "Real Drums" (way cool !) these are audio drum styles that replace the MIDI drums that we're all used to hearing in sequenced music. I had to change a lot of my background music to accommodate the new drums because the dynamics changed like the would having a real drummer. You'll just have to hear what I'm talking about.
I haven't paid much attention to Power Tracks Pro Audio in the past but it looks like a terrific program. It's a 48 track Digital Recording Studio. It has real or punch in record. You can choose either 22K or 44K (CD) 16 bit sampling rates. Hear audio effects in real time (panning, reverb,chorus, EQ, gain, etc.) You can edit audio in "Wave Window" using cut, copy, paste, merge, de-glitch, etc. You can import or export audio wave files. Type 0 & 1 MIDI file support. Sync SMPTE, MIDI time code, MIDI. Edit (Quantize, cut, copy, paste, undo, data filters, transpose) Multi port support. Up to 960 ppq time base. Sys-ex editor librarian. Patch names, banks. Enter, edit and display music in standard notation. Direct X plugins for Dynamics, Echo chorus, Peak Limit, Ten Band EQ. Reverb, etc. 100 levels of undo. I won't try to make you think I understand all of that but it sure sounds like a fun toy to run around the block. It's a buck a chance at Buckeye so save your pennies.

The buckeye is like a wedding - you get few RSVP's and when you get there you're stepping over people playing harmonicas... I'll bet it'll be packed....

I think a lot of east coast people make no decisions until the weather breaks.  I'm not sure where you're located, but here in Virginia it has been totally unstable.  One day short sleeves - that night a parka.  Next morning you're shoveling snow - by afternoon, what you've piled up has melted...  It's like living on the moon

I'd love to be able to make it to Buckeye this year.  Especially with the Band in a Box classes being given.  (I've got a feeling there is so much depth to the Band in a Box and I'm not even scratching the surface.)  Although Danny G and John Mooney have given me help in getting started.  If I was anything less then a very busy professional who couldn't jam everynight with a live players I think Band in a Box  would help anyone's playing from just the little I've seen.

It'll be great to meet you folks! BHF is the one I've always able make because it's just 175 miles down the street. I only learned about it after starting SlideMeister back in 2000, and I'm pretty sure I made it to all of them since then.  I usually just show up for the Saturday part, but this year Lord willing, both Barbara and I will be there from Thursday morning right through to the end.

lol...I wouldn't wear one anyway, Davo....maybe the guys feel okay wearing caps and t shirts, but frankly, it's always freezing in any of the hotels at the Conventions attended, and I prefer wearing long sleeves AND jackets.  Usually my fringed suede one..so that might distinguish me a bit, <g> And I'm NOT squishing my hair under a cap...ugh.  LOL....we do wear name-tags, so you'll just have to get close enough to read those...or just ask out loud..."who's a SlideMeister here"?!  Nobody will mind, since the people who attend Buckeye are a friendly lot and will usually point you to the nearest SlideMeister.  'Course we could pre-arrange a meeting at the bar or lounge or somewhere.  Harp-L people do just that, and it's a nice way to introduce ourselves.  Those who don't imbibe can easily have a soft drink...I don't remember anyone from here being interested in doing that last year, though.

Hi Phillip & Elaine:
My Photos (I figured everyone would be SO bored by now), <G>  can easily be viewed under the Gallery "Scotty's Photos".  That's me with my new American Eskimo dog Kaya.  Most of them are fairly recent, so I look pretty much the same.  Under the Member's Photos...is the one of me playing my chrom for the very first time at SPAH last year...for some reason I can't upload it to the Gallery (it's too big, and I can't figure out how to make it smaller). I'm tall, long blonde hair with glasses and a Scots accent.  Should be easy to spot me in the crowd, lol....I'm sure we'll meet up somehow or other at Buckeye.  Looking forward to meeting you both.
