Hoo boy! that's a tough one. If it's any consolation, corner switching is convenient and less "athletic" than just keeping to one corner of a tongue block, but you can learn to move quickly, anticipate where you're going, and get along without it for most applications. That's been my experience, anyway. But it's a nice skill to have, if you can resolve the TMJ issue. Have you talked to a dentist or oral surgeon?

My instructor has me doing corner switching, but I have not experienced any TMJ discomfort as a result.
He is out of town--Bill Barrett, he went to Russia to play with Hazmat Modine.
When he gets back to town, I'll ask him.

I don't understand why there has to be any jaw movement at all. I'm not an expert but when I switch it is my tongue that moves and maybe a slight rotation of the harp and/or head around a vertical axis.
IS there anyone who teaches movement of the jaw?

Like Vern touched on - try using less jaw movement that is causing you discomfort and clicking and really focus on relaxing your embouchure while letting your tongue create the switch.
